The interior of the original print
shop (1898) became the Roycroft Inn reception room in 1903.
(Note the fire place to the far right. It appears often in
subsequent photographs.) The clubhouse atmosphere of this
gaslit interior was captured by the famous documentary
photographer Frances Benjamin Johnson. A faint pencil
signature appears in the right corner. The round table in
the foreground, with the octagonal legs and cannonball feet, marks
the first appearance of the Roycroft furniture that was soon to be
offered for sale. Two examples of this form are evident in
East Aurora, NY today.
